This photo is the rear cover of New York Dolls album in 1973. The picture was film in front of the store Gem Spa on St. Mark’s Place, which still exists. I chose this picture because 1970s was at the triumph of rock-punk culture on St. Mark’s Place, and it is a cover of a rock-punk band. It is to present an image of how most people/the street looked like in the “coolest era” of St. Mark’s Place. This picture is going to be used to compare to the present-day Gem Spa street view photo I took, where there is much less countercultural element.
Who are my neighbors?
